Drumming Up Excitement: Laural Parke Residents Get Active with Cardio Drumming Group
Seniors are drumming up new friendships and a shared purpose at Laural Parke, a luxury senior living community in Houston, TX. “It’s called cardio drumming, but it’s more mental than anything,” said Jena Hoofnagle, founder of the group. “They have to think ahead. They have to be cognizant of the group as a whole.”
Members of the Laural Parke STIX & Country Crew perform for fellow seniors and churches around the area, even going on tour last summer. Members of the group range from 72 to 96 years old, and this exercise provides incredible benefits for both the minds and bodies of residents. Dr. Ed Fann, 96, is one of the founding members and a retired gerontologist and neuroscientist. “Activities are very important for old people, and things like this, drumming, are good not only for you physically, but really good for your brain.”
Residents express gratitude for the group and the opportunities Laural Parke provides for them to stay active, connect with others, and try something new. Check out Spectrum News 1’s video and news coverage on this group to learn more and hear from residents.
