The Laural Parke Stix took the stage for Lights Out, Sticks Up!
On Friday, July 10, the Laural Parke Stix, a troupe of Houston-area drummers all in their 90s,
took the stage for Lights Out, Sticks Up!
A Through the Decades Drumming Spectacular—a glow-in-the-dark performance that entertained
audiences of all ages. Composed of residents of Laural Parke, a Houston senior living community,
the group was formed in 2022 under the guidance of fitness specialist Jena Hoofnagle and has since
performed at senior communities, churches, and senior centers throughout the Houston area. For
this special show, the drummers were joined by Laural Parke’s line dancers for a lively journey
through the decades, featuring music from 1940s big band and 1950s/60s rock and roll to 1970s
disco and 1980s hits, all brought to life under blacklights with glowing drumsticks. How
